Stickers for resale for artists – how to turn your drawings into stickers for sale

Why are stickers a good selling product for an artist?

Stickers are particularly suitable for artists because:

  • The price of the product is low , so the threshold to buy is low.
  • They are easy to sell both online and live (events, con, markets)
  • One illustration can be used to make several products: a sticker, print, poster, sticker sheet, etc.
  • A good sticker keeps your art visible at all times – with the customer.

Stickers complement prints and posters well: the customer can take a large image home to hang on the wall and a small sticker to take with them into everyday life.

Individual stickers or sticker sheets?

First, you should consider whether you want to sell:

  • individual stickers (e.g. 5–9 cm high “character” or logo stickers)
  • sticker sheets , where the same sheet has several smaller stickers or both
  • A single sticker is a good choice when the image acts as a strong single element.

Sticker sheets are also very suitable:

  • for several smaller images
  • for theme sets (e.g. “autumn”, “kitty collection”, “fan set”)
  • for bujo, planner and journaling use

At Hanki Stickers, we can make both individual cut-to-size stickers and sheets with multiple images.

Material and surface – how will your art look as a sticker?

The material of the sticker will affect how your artwork looks as a finished product.

Most popular options for artists:

  • White vinyl + glossy laminate

    • bright colors, “print-like” and impressive result

    • well suited for colorful, high-contrast images

  • White vinyl + matte laminate

    • soft, finished and with a “gallery-like” feel

    • works well in subdued, Scandi-style or pastel-toned illustrations

  • Hologram vinyl (hologram sticker)

    • hologram effect in the background, the image stands out spectacularly

    • an excellent choice for special batches, limited editions and the “wow effect”

If you sell stickers at con events or online stores, for example, you can also test two different versions of the same illustration: for example, a basic version with a matte surface and a special version as a hologram.

Size – what works in sales?

Common sizes for stickers sold include:

  • small stickers: approx. 5–7 cm high or wide (good for everyday use on laptops, phones, wallets)
  • medium-sized stickers: approx. 7–10 cm (showy, but still easy to use)
  • sticker sheet: A6, A5 or A4 sheets with several smaller images

Often, one good strategy is:

  • make a few “basic sizes” (e.g. 7–8 cm) for individual character or logo stickers
  • offer sticker sheets as a complementary product, with different variations of the same theme

At Hanki Stickers, we can advise on suitable dimensions so that the details of the image are reproduced well and the sticker is usable for the customer.

How do you prepare art for print-ready stickers?

To ensure that the end result looks as it should, there are a few technical things you should ensure:

  1. Sufficient accuracy

    • Recommendation: at least 300 dpi at the intended size

  2. File format

    • Usually best: PDF, PNG, or high-quality JPG

    • PNG with a transparent background works well for die-cut stickers

  3. Cutline

    • If you can, you can draw a cutline around the image yourself.

    • If not, we can do it for you, as long as the image is clearly delineated.

  4. Assets and boundaries

    • Leave a little “safety margin” at the edges: important details should not be right at the edge of the cutting line

If any of this seems unfamiliar, don't worry - we at Hanki Stickers can help you review the material and, if necessary, make some light finishing touches to make it suitable for sticker production.

Pricing and lot sizes – where to start?

Stickers for resale can also be made in smaller batches, so you don't need a large inventory right away.

Good starting models:

  • a few different illustrations, e.g. 3–5 designs
  • one basic size for each design
  • reasonable batch size (e.g. 25–100 pieces / design initially)

This way you can test which images and sizes sell best – before ordering larger quantities.

At Hanki Stickers, we can offer pricing for different quantity options , making it easy to see how the price per piece changes as the order quantity increases.

Brand identity and packaging

If you sell stickers for resale or in an online store, you should also consider:

  • a small backing card with your logo and social media handle
  • brand color and typography in label background materials
  • clear marking: artist's name and possible website/IG account

This way, each sticker also acts as a business card for your art.
